Got more questions?

How do I store my cake?

Once your cake is delivered, store it in the refrigerator. This ensures the frosting stays in place and keeps its structure. Remove from the fridge an hour-1.5hrs before serving - cakes should only ever be served at room temperature. Give it enough time to come to room temp - you’ll enjoy your cake much more.

Can I change my pick up/delivery options last minute?

In short, ideally not. A baker’s schedule is planned within an inch of its life. The decorating and baking schedule is tight - it may not seem like a big deal to change your cake plans last minute and send an email or text - but it can throw an entire day into disarray, and cause a lot of stress on the bakers end. 48 hours notice to any changes in timing is required.

Do you ever use fondant?

No. PICNIC is a fondant-free zone.

Do you do custom flavors?

Only for wedding orders, for a small fee. Custom flavors require testing and time. Anything is possible and custom flavors are fun to do, where budget and time allow.

How do I store leftovers?

If you’re in a very hot place without AC, store it in an airtight container in the fridge. If you’re in a moderate temperature, cake can be stored in a container on the counter at room temp for up to 4 days. If you really want to save your cake for a while - you can freeze it if wrapped properly.

How much notice is needed when ordering a celebration cake?

4-7 days is ideal. Cakes for 12 servings or less are easier to accommodate at short request. For weddings - generally you’re ordering 3 months out or more since the season is busy and the schedule gets booked up quickly.

Will you copy a reference picture exactly?

Never. A cake by another cake maker is that artist’s intellectual property. Trust your cake maker and let them exceed your expectations and imagination :)

Can I DM you for a cake order?

No. Please respect the boundaries small businesses create, in order to best run their business as smoothly as possible to stay organized. All cake orders are confirmed through the website order form preferably, or by direct email.

Are all the flowers edible?

PICNIC only uses flowers that are safe to be in contact with frosting, however we don’t recommend eating them. While our commonly used flowers are edible (roses, chamomile, carnations, marigolds, cornflowers, lavender etc), they are not intended to be eaten, they are intended for aesthetics.

What if my baker steers me away from particular requests?

We spend a lot of time honing the craft of cake and usually have good reason behind floral/decorating/flavor combo decisions. If we steer you away from a specific idea - it’s usually for a good reason (that we’ll provide.) If we think we aren't the right fit for you, we’ll put you in touch with another baker who is.

Will you reserve my wedding date before I’ve sent a deposit?

No. Due to the high volume of weddings in the high desert, it’s first in first served. No dates will be fully blocked out until the order is confirmed and the 50% deposit is paid.
